Today, I will celebrate all the grandma's during this Women's History Month! An what better way to celebrate than by honoring the incredible women who came before us, like our grandmas? They may not have been tech. savey, but they sure knew a thing or two about resilience and strength. I was blessed beyond measure with a strong, independent, stubborn "Maw" who taught me many life lessons. Irene Sikes was the most influential woman in my life and helped shape me into the woman I am today! I strive to be like her when it comes to my own Grandkids.
Why Grandmas Are the Original Girl Bosses
Think about it: Grandma probably raised kids, worked full-time, and still had time to bake the best apple pie in town. She's basically the O.G. multitasker and girl boss. Maw lived in a tent with her parents and siblings for 7 years during the great depression. She knew hardship and hunger but never let that stop her! Her heart remained full her entire life. She was the most giving person because she knew what life was like without anything! So, this Women's History Month, let's tip our hats to the original girl bosses who paved the way for us.
Remembering Grandma's Words of Wisdom
Grandmas always seem to have the best advice, whether about love, life, or getting a stain out of your favorite shirt. Take a moment this month to reflect on all the wisdom your grandma has shared with you over the years. Who knows, her words might be the guiding light you need right now. I miss the days when I could sit and listen to her stories about life. I always left her house with my heart full and soul recharged; let's not forget the fantastic home-cooked meals she could whip up to feed an army! She was the Matriark and center of our universe. #blessedwiththebest
Celebrating National Women's Day
Today is National Women's Day! It's a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women around the world. Maw was a woman of substance, knowledge, and the I-Can-Do-It attitude. She started a nursing program at 50 and received her degree as an R.N. She showed me that age is just a number, and if you believe you can, it is downhill from here! I have often thought of her while changing my own career. She never gave up! Whether you're raising a glass to your grandma, mom, sister, or yourself, take a moment to honor the amazing women in your life.
So, this Women's History Month, let's toast all the grandmas who have shaped us into the fierce, fabulous women we are today. They may not have Twitter followers or YouTube channels, but they knew how to rock a killer cotton dress and a can-do attitude. Here's to you, Maw, the best grandma ever! I love and miss you EVERY DAY!
